Biafra: Ekweremadu, Abaribe, Other Igbo Senators Meet Buhari Over IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu

Senators from the South East on Tuesday met with President Muhammadu Buhari over the tension generated in the region as a result of the activities of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.

The Senators, who were led by the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu said the South East zone was shortchanged by the current Federal Government.

Addressing State House Correspondents after the meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, Ekweremadu said they had fruitful discussion with the president over pressing issues affecting the South East.

The Deputy Senate President stressed that the South East is of the option that dialogue remains the best bet in addressing some of the issues affecting the region.

IPOB: Kanu Not Being Held By Nigerian Govt, May Be Hiding – Lai Mohammed

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed has said that the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is not being held by the Nigerian Federal government.

This is coming just many days after the Nigerian army clashed with IPOB in Umuahia, Abia state after it launched a military exercise tagged Operation Egwu Eke II or Operation Python Dance II in the south Eastern states of Nigeria.

Ever since the clash which many reports claimed the Nigerian army invaded the IPOB leader’s home and allegedly shot dead many of his supporters, the whereabouts of Kanu has been unknown.

IGP Idris Orders Dismantling Of Road Blocks Nationwide

The Inspector General of Police,Ibrahim Idris, has ordered his men to immediately remove all roadblocks on highways nationwide.

FG Gazettes IPOB Ban, To Write Banks, Embassies, Foreign Missions

The Federal Government has gazetted the order of the Federal High Court in Abuja which proscribed the Indigenous People of Biafra and designated the group as a terrorist organisation .

The gazetting was part of the requirements imposed on the Federal Government by the court to finalise the proscription of the group.

The Acting Chief Judge of the Federal High Court , Justice Abdu Kafarati, had, on September 20, issued the proscription order upon an ex parte application by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice , Mr. Abubakar Malami (SAN) .

Founder of the Igbo Youth Movement(IYM), Evangelist Elliot Ugochukwu-Uko has revealed that the leader of the Indigenous people of Biafra(IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu had agreed that Nigeria must be restructured shortly before the Nigerian army invaded his home in Abia.

LUTH, Psychiatric Hospital Discharge Patients Due To Strike

As the strike declared by health workers under the aegis of the Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU) bites harder, the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) and the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Yaba, have hurriedly discharged patients admitted in the hospitals.
This is because majority of the nurses that should care for them have joined the industrial action.
The development has compelled the Federal Government to appeal to JOHESU to call off the strike.

Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, said that government was working assiduously towards addressing the demands of the health workers.
Investigations by New Telegraph revealed that about 90 per cent of patients on admission at the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Yaba, Lagos, have so far been discharged.

Also in LUTH, a reliable source told New Telegraph that majority of the over 300 patients admitted in the teaching hospital have been discharged, leaving only 120 patients in the wards, due to non-availability of nurses, majority of who are also on strike.

IPOB: We Will Only Support Lawful Agitations - House Of Reps

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara has said that lawmakers can only support issues that have substance within the confines of the law and not contrary.

Dogara was reacting the recent calls for secession by the Indigenous people of Biafra(IPOB) group. PoliticsNGR learned that he also spoke on the calls for restructuring, adding that 'credible legislative inputs that would address the issue'.

South-East Governors Unveil Plans To Rehabilitate IPOB Members

Governors of the South-East geopolitical zone yesterday, said plans were underway to empower and rehabilitate members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in their respective states into a meaningful venture.

Chairman of the South- East Governors’ Forum and Governor of Ebonyi State, Chief Dave Umahi stated this in Ishielu Local government area of the state during the celebration of the state’s peace day. He noted that the governors had reached a resolution bearing in mind that some of the youth were misled into joining the outlawed IPOB group. He said Ebonyi state would soon commence the rehabilitation and empowerment exercise for the youth who were misled into joining IPOB in the state.

Court Grants Diezani’s Prayer, Strikes Out Fraud Charge Having Her Name

A Federal High Court in Abuja , on Wednesday, struck out one of the nine counts of $ 1 . 6 bn crude oil fraud instituted against businessman , Jide Omokore , and five others.

Justice Nnamdi Dimgba, in a ruling , struck out the eighth count after hearing an application by a former Minister of Petroleum Resources , Mrs. Diezani Allison - Madueke , who had alleged that she was indicted in the particular count, yet was not given the opportunity to defend herself.

Reps Order Banks To Unfreeze Patience Jonathan's Accounts

The House of Representatives on Tuesday directed six commercial banks to unfreeze any account belonging to former First Lady, Patience Jonathan and her relatives.

However, the affected banks are those without restriction order from court or the anti-graft agencies.

The House also asked the acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, to appear before its Public Petition Committee on October 4.

The House regretted that Magu failed to honour the Committee’s invitation on three occasions but advised the EFCC chairman that it should not be compelled to force his appearance before the panel.

NLC Names TEN States That Mis-Spent Their Bail Out Funds


TEN states have misspent the bail out funds and the Paris Club refund, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) said yesterday.

The NLC made good its threat to “Name and Shame” states that refused to pay workers or make public the bailout funds and the Paris Club refund they got.

The congress also warned the government against approving another increase in electricity tariff, saying it will mobilise its affiliates, social partners and other Nigerians to resist any further increase when Nigerians were yet to get a good service foe the previous increase, which has been declared illegal by the court.

"IPOB Crisis Bigger Than Boko Haram" - Kashim Shettima

The Indigenous People of Biafra IPOB separatist crisis being spearheaded by Nnamdi Kanu is bigger than the activities of the deadly terrorist group Boko Haram, Borno State Governor Kashim Shettima has said.

No fewer than 20, 000 people are believed to have been killed by Boko Haram since the Islamist sect started its attacks in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states, especially and partly in Abuja and some other parts of the country about eight years ago.

Thousands of others have been maimed by the sect that was also responsible for the infamous abduction of 276 Chibok schoolgirls in April, 2014. More than 100 of the girls are still in the sect’s custody.

In a move to take the heat off the Nigerian Army and ensure that due process is followed, President Muhammadu Buhari has signed a presidential proclamation proscribing the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) over the group’s involvement in terrorist activities.

I Will Never Support The Breakup Of Nigeria - Wike

Governor of Rivers state, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has stated that he will never support anything that will lead to the breakup or disintegration of Nigeria.

Wike statements came shortly after the Northern governors' forum(NGF) paid him a visit on Monday. The NGF had earlier stated that Wike's state-wide broadcast after an attack carried out by IPOB members on some Hausas in Oyigbo area of Port Harcourt last week, helped to restore normalcy to the state.

In response, Wike said;

"Rivers state believes in the unity of this country. Rivers state will not be a part of those calling for the disintegration of Nigeria. We owe it a duty to protect every Nigerian living in the state.

The Biafra National Guard (BNG) has reportedly declared they are ready to fight the Nigerian Army to avoid the extinction of The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.
This comes days after the Nigerian military declared IPOB a terrorist group following the recent clash in Umuahia, the capital of Abia State.
In a statement submitted to the press, the BNG laughed off the terrorist tag and vowed to fight on until the hope of Biafra is restored.
According to Major Nkuma, the spokesman for the group he tagged the Nigerian government a “big joke” for making such declaration.

No Hiding Place For IPOB Members In Anambra – Obiano

The Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, on Sunday said his government had aligned itself completely with the decisions of the South east governors in the proscription of the activities of the Indigenous People Biafra.

The governor who spoke in a statement by his Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Tony Nnacheta, said there would be no hiding place for mischief makers and anyone who would wish to distort the prevailing peace in the state.

Biafra: What Senate Will Do About Military Action On Nnamdi Kanu, IPOB – Saraki

President of the Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki, said the Senate would soon meet with security chiefs over military action against members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, and their leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

He said the meeting would chart a path for resolution of contentious issues causing tension in the South-East and also address the skirmishes in Plateau and other states.

This is as the Nigerian Army declared that its ongoing operation in the region will continue.

Saraki in a statement on Sunday in Abuja said that security agencies, political and religious leaders must work for the promotion of dialogue as means for tackling agitations, to ensure peace in the country.

Operatives of the Lagos state Neighbourhoood Safety Corps, LNSC has arrested 11 secondary school students suspected to be cultists. This was disclosed by CSP Adekunle Omisankin, the Divisional Police Officer of Olosan Police station.

According to Omisankin, the suspects who have been in operation since 2013 operating as students between 17 and 18 years old, all belonged to the ‘Gang Star’ cult and fingered to be terrorizing members of the public with dangerous weapons.

As President Muhammadu Buhari arrives the United States to address the United Nations General Assembly, Northern leaders have raised the alarm that the embattled leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, has mobilized Nigerians living in the country to attack the president.

The Arewa people under the aegis of Coalition of Northern Groups, CNG, alleged on Sunday in a mail sent to Vanguard that the plan by IPOB sponsors was to humiliate President Buhari, who is billed to speak at UNGA.

UMUAHIA—The Abia State Police Commissioner, Anthony Ogbizi, has said that with the proscription of Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, by governors in the South-East and its declaration as a terrorist group by Defence Headquarters, arrested IPOB members would be tried as terrorists and anybody found with Biafra materials would be arrested and prosecuted.

This came as President Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday, held a closed-door meeting with some northern governors before departing for New York where he will be attending the 72nd Session of the United Nations General Assembly, UNGA.

This is even as former President Goodluck Jonathan has called for peaceful coexistence among the different ethnic nationalities.

Nnamdi Kanu Plans To Escape Through Cameroonian Borders - Arewa Youths

The Arewa Youths Consultative Forum has alleged that the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, who was said to have gone into hiding, is planning to flee Nigeria through the Cameroonian borders.

The organisation said intelligence reports at its disposal had revealed that the pro-Biafran activist was on his way to the Cameroon borders where he could easily escape from Nigeria.

Kanu and top leaders of IPOB were said to have gone into hiding following the declaration on Friday by the Nigerian Army that IPOB and other pro-Biafran groups were terrorist organisations.

The President of AYCF, Mallam Shettima Yerima, in an interview with The PUNCH on Sunday in Jos, said, “We are aware that he is scheming to find a way of escape through Cameroonian borders, which is easier for him to move and run back to where he belongs.

“He is on his way looking for how to run to Cameroon and that we are aware from our intelligence reports.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has said the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) is being sponsored by certain disgruntled elements to sabotage the Buhari Administration, under the guise of fighting for the rights of the people of the South-east.
