Osun: Tribunal Grants APC, PDP Leave To Examine Election Materials

Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal yesterday granted the double motion ex-parte filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) seeking for the release of the election materials used during the voting exercise of the August 9, election in the state for examination.
The tribunal’s panel of judges led by Justice I. M. Bako during their first sitting yesterday at Osogbo granted the applications of the parties seeking for the inspection of the election materials in the custody of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Counsel to APC, Mr. Kunle Adegoke had prayed the tribunal to move outside the pre-hearing session, the election materials used during the poll for thorough inspection and examination.
Adegoke informed the sitting that the motion for the court to grant the party leave to inspect the election materials in the custody of INEC was supported with a 20-paragraph affidavit and a written address in compliance with relevant sections of the electoral law.
APC’s counsel said the motion was brought pursuant to Section 151 of the Electoral Act, paragraph 47 of the first schedule, noting that the action was “intended to move the ambit of justice.”
