NMA’s Strike Suspension: FG Yet To Be Notified – Minister

The federal government said Tuesday, that it was yet to receive any formal notification of suspension of strike by the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) days after it suspended its 55-day long industrial action.
The minister of health, Prof Onyebuchi Chukwu, stated while answering questions from pressmen on the possibility of the government suspending its earlier decision to suspend and terminate Residency Programmme and appointment of resident doctors in all government owned hospitals.

“I have seen them (NMA) on television, but they have not communicated us. I am waiting to hear from them.”
Resident doctors remain uncertain about resuming work on account of the standing suspension of the residency programme. Their reluctance comes hours after a nationwide doctors’ strike was called off and despite assurances by the parent Nigerian Medical Association to continue negotiations.
