So many structures and items have been vandalized. Dozens have been killed and a lot of church structures have been burnt down. Christians in the town are really in a terrible situation, a moment of great persecution. Christian men were caught and beheaded, the women were forced to become Muslims and were taken as wives to the terrorists. Rev. Fr. Gideon Obasogie, the social communications director of the catholic diocese of Maiduguri said. It might surprise you to know that no one knows the state of affairs in this terrorist zone. The houses of Christians that have fled are now occupied by the haramists. Their cars are used by the terrorists, Rev Obasogie said.
He also said Boko Haram sympathizers in Gwoza showed the militants homes belonging to Christians and even showed them where some of the Christians went to hide when the killing began. They were fished out and killed.

Ebola scare hits Bayelsa

Sequel to the confirmed case of Ebola in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, that led to the death of Dr Enemoah, who contacted the disease from a diplomat that had contact with Mr Patrick Sawyer who died of Ebola virus, people of Bayelsa State have come under fear over the possible spread of the virus to the state.
The news that spread like wildfire hit the state as early as 8:00a.m., creating panic among the people of the state, primarily because Bayelsa was created from Rivers State and they both share boundary on land and on the waterways.
There is palpable fear in the state, as people are praying that none of the over 70 persons under surveillance should sneak to Bayelsa either by road or the connecting routes on the waterways.
The apprehension is heightened, as some Bayelsans have their relations residing in Port Harcourt.
Bayelsans, who hitherto felt secured now carry their sanitisers and avoided handshake.
A respondent, Mr Famous Erepagamo, told the Nigerian Tribune that “both states are sister states with shared boundaries,” even as he appealed to government to re-invigorate medical surveillance and checks at the state’s tow gate.
Another respondent, Mrs Juliet Enebidou, told our correspondent that there was the need to also “strengthen surveillance at the waterways entry port to the state,” even as she noted that it must be done with urgency.
Efforts to get the state Commissioner for Health, Mr Owei proved abortive, but the information officer of the ministry said that the ministry was poised to hold a stakeholders interactive session to allay the tension over the possible spread of Ebola virus from Port Harcourt to Bayelsa State.

APC to Jonathan: TAN’s rallies endanger Ebola control

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has urged President Goodluck Jonathan to halt the rallies being organised across the nation by the Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria (TAN) for his re-election.
The party noted that the rallies were jeopardising Nigeria’s efforts to control the spread of the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD).
In a statement yesterday in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, APC said: “Mr. President, you said your ambition is not worth the life of any Nigerian. But the TAN rallies for your re-election are endangering the lives of thousands of Nigerians in these days of Ebola. Some things must simply transcend politics. This is one of them. Please, stop the rallies now.”
It urged the President to ensure that the rally slated for Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, on Saturday, is stopped, because of the spread of the Ebola virus to the city and the fact that 100 people have been placed under surveillance there, following the death of a doctor from a suspected Ebola disease.
APC said: “If TAN goes ahead to organise its rally in Port Harcourt, can anyone guarantee that none of those who have had contact with the doctor will attend? It can only be better imagined the kind of danger that those who will attend the rally will be subjected to. Therefore, President Jonathan has a historic opportunity to put the well-being of his compatriots above politics, for once.”

Cameroon bombs Boko Haram camp

Boko Haram has suffered a heavy casualty after coming under attack from Cameroon’s army.
The Cameroonian army shelled one of the Islamist sect’s camps across the border, killing “many” fighters, according to a security official.
The source said the army shelled the camp on Wednesday evening, two days after the jihadist group seized control of Gamboru Ngala on the border with Cameroon.
“It was tanks stationed on the frontier at Fotokol (on Cameroon’s side of the border) that shelled the camp on the other side,” the source said on condition of anonymity.
“Seen from Fotokol this morning, Gamboru looks empty and smells of death,” he added. “Nobody knows how many Boko Haram members were killed, but it is obvious that many were.”
The shelling was confirmed by a local police officer.
“These were abandoned houses that they have occupied since they entered Gamboru. We think they still control the town, because there are many of them and they didn’t all gather in the same place,” he said.

Urban renewal: How Ajimobi tackles infrastructural decay

In his inaugural speech on May 29, 2011, Governor Abiola Ajimobi highlighted the infrastructural decay in the state when he said:“What stare us in the face today are nothing but the ruins of that noble pedigree. Even the most generous commentator on Nigeria’s affairs will not deny that Oyo State is no longer the pace-setter that it used to be.
The labour of our heroes past has been lost in the vortex of vanity. Our public infrastructure is dilapidated. Our public institutions have been compromised. The psyche of our people has been bruised. Our State has ceased to be the reference point for laudable programmes for which it earned her nobility. We have, on the reverse, become a staple on reports on violence and brigandage, corruption, street fight and lingering political crises. The duty of government as guarantor of public peace has been performed in the breach.”

That mystery fire at the Glass House

FOR many football lovers, the mystery fire that gutted the NFF Glass House in Abuja, almost destroying the Accounts Department, has already been tainted as an act of man, not of God, although proper investigations will tell us which is which.
With news of missing or badly disbursed monies trailing the leadership of the Nigerian Football Federation, NFF, after the recent World Cup tournament, there is no way suspicious Nigerians would not call it sabotage or an attempt at cover-up.
Before they left for Brazil, the Aminu Maigari-led NFF Board was impeached and later sacked on various alleged charges of misdemeanor.
But on the two occasions when Maigari had cried wolf, FIFA had intervened, like a parent who always stands by a bad child no matter what he or she does, to save members of the NFF, reinstated them and threatened the Federal Government for what it termed regular interference with the running of football in the country. That looks like what Blatter or the Secretary-General would scream from the touch line when another is picking up the bills.
