Bus conductor remanded for phone theft

A Tinubu Magistrates’ Court on Thursday in Lagos remanded a bus conductor, Seun Akanbi, at Ikoyi Prisons over alleged theft of a blackberry phone.
Twenty-year-old Akanbi, who pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing, was remanded on the orders of Magistrate Tokunbo Omoyele.
Omoyele subsequently adjourned the case to March 31 for facts and sentencing.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Sgt. Daniel Ighodalo, told the court that the accused committed the offence on March 25 at about 6.10 p.m. at MRS filling station, Ikate in Lekki area of Lagos.
Ighodalo alleged that the accused stole the phone from one Damilare Olaitan’s car while he was buying petrol.
“An onlooker alerted the complainant and pursued Akanbi and apprehended him.’’
The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Section 285 prescribes three years imprisonment for offenders.
