Robber steal Pope John Paul’s blood from Italy church

A team of robber broke into a small mountain church in the east of Rome over the weekend and stole a reliquary with late Pope John Paul’s II blood.

Some of John Paul’s blood was saved after an assassination attempt that nearly killed him in St. Peter’s Square on May 13, 1981.

Franca Corrieri, custodian of the reliquary, said she had discovered a broken window early on Sunday morning and called the police.

She said when they entered the small stone church they found the gold reliquary and a crucifix missing.

Corrieri said the incident felt more like a “kidnapping’’ than a theft as she could not say if the intention of the thieves may have been to seek a ransom for the blood.

She said apart from the reliquary and a crucifix, nothing else was stolen from the isolated church, even though the thieves would probably have had time to take other objects during the night-time theft.

US: Nigeria Won’t Break up in 2015

Worries about Nigeria breaking up may not be unfounded after all.  The United States Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. James Entwistle, during an interactive session with some journalists in Lagos, said his country, contrary to misconception, was not preparing  for Nigeria’s breakup.
He said: “I don’t see any sign of a breakup. There is no sign that Nigeria will breakup. If this country is going to breakup in 2015, to me, I don’t see any sign of it. You have challenges in this country, but you are moving forward towards a bright future. There is no issue that the country might break up.
“Yes, your country had a devastating civil war just like my own country. It almost tore us into two. I think both of our countries have learnt how difficult it is to hold a country together and that has certainly been a big factor in my country. The idea that Nigeria is going to fall apart in the coming months is news to me; I am not sure where that idea is coming from.”

FG To Phase Out Water Satchets, Other Plastics

The Federal Ministry of Environment has developed a draft action plan for the phasing out of light weight non-biodegradable plastics in the country, a top official of the ministry, said, yesterday.

The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, in Abuja, said that the draft action plan had already been adopted by stakeholders in the sector.
He recalled that the ministry, in collaboration with the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation, UNIDO, had in December 2013, organised a workshop to sensitise Nigerians on the process.
“What we intend to do now is to follow the implementation of the action plan since the awareness has already started; the next step is to source funds from UNIDO to implement the plan.
“Once we have funds, we will continue with other activities in the process of phasing out heavy non-biodegradable plastics.”
The official said it was not possible to completely phase out non-biodegradable plastics because of its importance in the society.
He cited the example of a plastic chair, which is a non-biodegradable component, to buttress his point.

New Smart Bra Will Only Unhook Itself For True Love

Everyone laughed last year when Microsoft announced plans to release a “smart bra” that would detect emotions. Now, though, the mecha-bras are upon us, and we’ve got Japan—who else?—to thank.

Dubbed the “True Love Tester,” Japan’s first foray into the budding smart bra industry comes from Ravijour. What makes it “smart” is that the manufacturers claim that the bra will only unclasp itself for true love—which sensors measure through heart rate and other factors over a predetermined amount of time. So, basically, it detects “love” in the physiological sense, which often is mistaken for “being Hot.”

Google to sell Motorola unit to Lenovo

 Punch reports

China’s Lenovo Group is said to be in the final stages of buying Google’s Motorola handset division for close to $3bn, in what may be the company’s leeway into a heavily competitive US handset market dominated by Apple.
If sealed, the deal will give Lenovo control over Google’s division that makes the Moto X and Moto G smartphones, as well as certain patents, sources familiar with the matter told Reuters news agency on Wednesday.
A sale of Motorola would mark the end of Google’s short-lived foray into making mobile devices and a pullback from its largest-ever acquisition. Google bought the US cellphone giant in 2012 for $12.5bn.
Since then, Google, which is keeping most of the patent’s portfolio, has trimmed Motorola’s workforce from 20,000 to about 3,800, and the handset division has lost nearly $2bn.
The deal would also mark Lenovo’s second major deal on US soil in a week, as it seeks to get a foothold in major global computing markets.

The Chinese electronics company last week announced a deal to buy IBM’s low-end server business for $2.3bn in what was China’s biggest technology deal thus far. An announcement could come as soon as Wednesday.
The Chinese firm will use a combination of cash and stock as well as deferred payments to finance the deal with Google, the people said, asking not to be named because the matter is not public.
The potential purchaser is being advised by Credit Suisse Group while Lazard advised Google on the transaction, the people said.
Representatives for Google, Lenovo, Credit Suisse and Lazard did not respond to requests for comment or declined to comment.

Dear Daddy, you must accept I’m a lesbian: Gigi Chao

Hong Kong socialite Gigi Chao was reluctantly thrown into the spotlight when her tycoon father Cecil Chao Sze-tsung declared his refusal to accept she was a lesbian by issuing a HK$500 million ‘dowry’ to a man that could marry her. Now she has written a poignant open letter to him after he doubled his offer last week.
Despite the fact that Gigi Chao married her partner of nine years, Sean Eav, in a civil ceremony in France in 2012, her property developer father has continued to attract the attention of the world’s media with his bounty. In an interview this month with the Malaysian newspaper Nanyang Siang Pau,  Cecil Chao insisted his daughter was still single, adding that he believed it was not too late to change her thinking because she was only 33.
Previously, Gigi, an executive director at her father’s Cheuk Nang property development company who has made no secret of her sexuality, has laughed off the bid to find her a husband.
However, today she issues a plea to her ‘Daddy’ in an open letter she hopes will finally halt his interference.Read letter after the cut

Gay Pastor,Jide Macaulay Justifies His Gayness

Rev. Jide Macaulay recently penned an emotional article about being rejected by his father (pictured below with him) when he came out as a homosexual in 1994 and his acceptance of his lifestyle many years later.

Towards Full Acceptance - By Rowland Jide Macaulay

I am writing this article to share my story with people who want to reconcile sexuality, faith, and family. It is a sequel to “My Father, My Faith and My Sexuality: The Dialogue” (in Q-zine’s first issue). Readers of that article will understand how much I have looked forward to visiting Nigeria again after years of estrangement. That long-postponed visit finally took place in January 2011, after a three year absence. This is the experience I want to share with you now.

Some background first. I came out as gay in 1994 after a troubled heterosexual life. My coming out was a disaster of, you might say, Biblical proportions. I was hated and denounced on mainly religious grounds, called a sinner, a defiler, an abomination, etc.

When my family found out I was gay, many of my siblings stopped speaking with me. My mother was the only one who comforted me. With my father, it was three years of hell. I had to face the fact that I could lose him. I wondered, as a person of faith, what my “heavenly Father” would do if my earthly father could react with such hatred.

Two FCMB Workers Arraigned For Stealing N13.5m From Bullion Van

Two workers with the First City Monument Bank Plc, Adeyemi Adebayo, 32, and Ogundare Julius, 46, have been arraigned before an Ebute-Meta Magistrate’s court for allegedly stealing €50,000 belonging to the bank.

The men were asked to transport the money in a bullion van from the bank’s headquarters at Marina, Lagos, to a branch of FCMB at Adetokunbo Ademola, Lagos Island.

Adebayo, the cash transit officer, allegedly connived with Julius, the bullion driver, to divert the money to an agreed place.

The matter was said to have been reported at the police station when the bank officers at the receiving branch did not see the funds.

They were subsequently arrested and arraigned on Tuesday on four counts of conspiracy and stealing.

The charges reads in part, “That you, Adeyemi Adebayo and Ogundare Julius, on December 31, 2013, at First City Monument Bank Plc Headquarters, Marina, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District did conspire between yourselves to commit felony to wit: Stealing.

Rapper Wale strikes Olamides gunman pose in new picture

Rapper Wale is back with his Maybach Music clique after an unforgettable experience in Nigeria last December, but he didn’t go empty handed. Having spent time with indigenous rapper Olamide during his stay in Nigeria, Wale took the viral ‘gunman pose’ concept with him. In a picture shared on Olamide’s IG, Wale displayed the pose while his label mate Meek Mill looked in awe. We can guess Mill’s thought at that pic-moment: “what’s up with this Nigerian sh*t homie?” or maybe he’s blank. Wale had referenced Olamide and Wizkid in an interview last week, on a New York radio station Power 105.1FM, saying he has worked with the young stars.
