D’banj Signs N250m Deal With Etisalat

This is coming after the comic actor, Hafis Oyetoro, better known as Saka, received a better endorsement cheque from MTN and conveniently dumped Etisalat, believed to be paying him less.
We were told D’banj’s cheque is N250 million and he has already shot the necessary commercials with Etisalat. However, both parties are still keeping mum on the development.
The competition in the telecoms sector started with Saka moving to MTN from Etisalat.Globacom, which is not new to celebrity endorsements, added M I, Naeto C, Omawunmi, Waje and Burna Boy to its long list of celebrity ambassadors.
MTN has also thought it worthy to sign endorsement deals with past winners of franchise music competition of Project Fame West Africa. These included Iyanya, Mike Anyasodo, Chidinma Ekile.
However, as it is, it seems Etisalat has challenged MTN and others with D’banj catch.

My Mother, Her Life, Her Legacy, By Bola Ahmed Tinubu

Bola Tinubu and his late mother, Abibat Mogaji
My mother, (Maa’mi) Hajia Abibatu Mogaji, has passed. But it is so obvious from the outpouring of emotions across Nigeria and beyond that Mama lives.  God blessed her with 96 plus years on earth. But she was not great because of her longevity. For, it is not how long one lives but how well. But Mama used every minute of her sojourn on earth wisely and well. My mother lived a long, fruitful life that benefited all who were fortunate enough to come into contact with her. Everywhere she went and everything she touched, she left better than she found them. She added and never subtracted. She made and never destroyed.

Her light consistently shone and the darkness could never comprehend nor extinguish it. God gave women a tremendous creative force and that force lived in my mother until her last day.

But she is not only my mother. She is my Hero.  To Africa, she is Mama Africa. Nigeria shared her with the world. I recall in 1988 when we had a delegation for the “Free Mandela” campaign in South Africa. She was there front and centre with Sam Nujoma, the first President of Namibia.

Most of you know her as the Iyaloja of Lagos or the President General of the Association of Nigerian Market Women and Men. She is more. She was Iya-Gbo-Gbo (Mother of All), Iya Oba of Lagos, Iya Oba of Ikirun and Iya Oba of many other towns too numerous to list. She received numerous citations, awards and recognition from mosques and churches across the land. As a validation of her depth of knowledge and stewardship, the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria awarded her Honorary Doctorate Degree, (Honoris Causa).

She was a powerful, progressive public figure in her own right. When it was fashionable and accepted to ridicule and look down on market women and men, she was their staunch and proud advocate for they were and are an important part of our society, culture and economy. She stood by them as they stood by her.  She was instrumental in shaping policies and practices to assure more Nigerians benefited from commerce and trade which in the former days were dominated by foreign hands. She helped mould and organized the people of the markets into a potent force for justice and social progress, not just for their own interests but for the good of the weak, poor and downcast.

Immigration deports 5 Chinese, 81 others

Other nationals include, 25 Nigeriens, 33 Guineans, 10 Togolese, 11 Benenoise and two Ghanaians.
Ever since the arrest of a Chadian on the grounds of terrorism in Ijora area of Lagos, security agencies in the state have increased the clampdown on illegal immigrants.

While parading some of the illegal aliens, Lagos Command Comptroller of Immigration, Mr. Rasheed Odupeyin said NIS had issued an order to ensure that the bio metrics of every illegal immigrant was recorded. “The recent clamp down is not restricted, it cuts across every immigrant without a valid visa. Every immigrant with a visa that is subject to regularisation automatically gets it renewed.
For the West African nationals, they would be given 3 months visa upon their entry and they are expected to get a resident or work permit. We have started storing their data if they ever find their way back to this country and are caught, they would be made to face stiffer sanction not just deportation.” Some of the illegal immigrants lamented that it was lack of information that stopped them from regularising their stay.
According to Abdul, a Guinean, no one stopped us when we were entering the country and besides when we got here, we were told that it was not necessary.

IN West Africa: Local ATM cards to work in West Africa countries

It will soon be possible for Ghanaian Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards to work in outlets in Nigeria and in French speaking countries as well as Cape Verde.

This will be possible through the integration of the payment systems of Ghana, Nigeria, Cape Verde and the zone of West Africa Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA).

Mr Archie Hesse, Chief Executive of Ghana Inter-Bank Payment And Settlement System (GhIPSS), managers of Ghana’s payment system, said Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) had planned to have a central West African payment platform.

He, however, said it was agreed that a pilot platform be rolled out by integrating the four payment systems, after which the remaining countries will be joined to a central platform.

The project, which is significantly advanced, is part of a central sub-regional payment system that is being driven by the ECOWAS.

When the project is implemented fully, it is anticipated that it would boost cross border trade, as traders, businessmen and women as well other travelers from the participating countries, can access money from their bank accounts back home using their local ATM cards.

Obama Visit South Africa hoping to pay homage to His Hero Nelson Mandela

Barack Obama flies to South Africa today hoping to pay homage to the legacy of his critically-ill hero Nelson Mandela, who remains in hospital in a critical condition.
Mr Mandela's poor health means the two men are not expected to have a long-anticipated meeting for the cameras.
South Africa's first black president - who turns 95 next month - was rushed to hospital three weeks ago with recurrent lung problems.
On the eve of Mr Obama's visit, Mr Mandela was said to be in a critical condition, but had stabilised since a scare forced his successor Jacob Zuma to cancel a trip to neighbouring Mozambique.
"He is much better today," said Mr Zuma after seeing Mr Mandela late on Thursday for the second time in less than 24 hours.
Yet South Africans, including Mr Mandela's family, remain braced for the worst.
"I won't lie. It doesn't look good," daughter Makaziwe Mandela said. She added that "if we speak to him he responds and tries to open his eyes - he's still there".
"Anything is imminent, but I want to emphasise again that it is only God who knows when the time to go is," she told local radio.

American Company Sells Pork-laced Bullets To Fight Islamic Terrorists

A company in Dalton Gardens, Idaho has developed a new line of pork-laced bullets they hope will be used to fight back against Islamic terrorists.

South Fork Industries created the bullets, which they call Jihawg Ammo, so they can be used as a 'defensive deterrent to those who violently act in the name of Islam.'

They took traditional ammo and coated the bullets in a pork-infused paint. Those shot with the bullets would be unclean, as the Islamic religious forbids Muslims from coming into contact with pig meat.

The manufacturers believe that this act will keep any Muslims shot with the bullets from going to heaven.

'With Jihawg Ammo, you don't just kill an Islamist terrorist, you also send him to hell. That should give would-be martyrs something to think about before they launch an attack. If it ever becomes necessary to defend yourself and those around you our ammo works on two levels,' the company said in a press release earlier this month.

But experts on the religion disagree with the theory that the bullets would keep Muslims from attaining salvation.

'There is no penalty for coming into contact with pork given by the Quran,' said Shannon Dunn, assistant professor of religious studies at Gonzaga University in an interview with Religion News Service.

'To my knowledge, Muslims, especially unknowingly, would not be banned from heaven for eating or getting hit by pork. There are some interpreters who suggest that Muslims should eat pork than starve, if faced with that alternative.'

Effective or not, the company is getting a surprising amount of support on Facebook with more than 5,500 likes.

And they're looking to make money outside of bullet sales.

Sweden's Left-Party To Ban Men From Urinating While Standing

The local chapter of the Left Party, a socialist and feminist political party, in Sormland County Council, Sweden, is pushing to make standing while peeing illegal for men using the county council's public restrooms.
Party officials are pushing to make public restrooms in the county council "sitting only."

According to the Local, supporters of the proposal say sitting while urinating is more hygienic and promotes sanitary restroom habit for male users. It will help to eliminate the problem of puddles on the floor and spray stains on toilet seats.

They also argue that urinating while sitting will help to promote male health because it allows men to empty their bladder more effectively. Sitting while urinating according to advocates will reduce prostate problems among men.

The Local reports that as a compromise, the party has proposed that some toilets could, in the interim, be designated exclusively for men who must remain standing while peeing.

The Left Party's Viggo Hansen, who made the proposal, said that ultimately he wants office toilets in the council to be genderless and would thus like to see only "sit-down" toilets in county council offices.

He said that the move should not be seen as meddling in the bathroom habits of people. He told Sveriges Television (SVT): "That's not what we're doing. We want to give men the option of going into a clean toilet."

Boko-Haram’s Video Equipment, Computers Seized

ABUJA—FOLLOWING attempts by fleeing members of the Boko Haram terrorist sect to regroup in a bid to fight back, the Defence headquarters, yesterday, said that communication equipment used by the group for shooting and posting online video messages of their leaders have been recovered.

The disclosure was made just as Special Forces of the JTF commenced night and day patrols to dislodge remnants of terrorists still hibernating in the camps and hideouts of the hilltops and forests where the terrorists had made their den.
The equipment recovered including laptops, mobile communication equipment (GSM phones) and others used for shooting and posting online videos, as well as locally made rockets and rocket launchers were among several items seized by the JTF from the arrested terrorists. They were displayed for a nine man Defence Headquarters Assessment Team that visited Borno and Yobe states, weekend.

A statement by Brigadier General Chris Olukolade, Director of Defence Information said: “As a follow up to scheduled assessment visits to troops in the North East of the country, a nine member Defence Headquarters Operational Assessment Team has returned from Yobe and Borno States to brief the Chief of Defence Staff with updates on the situation in the operational area of the Special Forces operating in the North East.

“The force which has been tasked in support of the implementation of the State of Emergency is conducting operations to stop terrorism and to restore normalcy to the security situation in north eastern part of the country. The team also assured the troops of regular logistic supplies while the mission lasts.

UK High Commissioner Explains The £3,000 Visa Bonds

THE British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Dr Andrew Pocock, has cleared the air on the controversial £3,000 visa bonds for Nigerian visa applicants to the United Kingdom (UK).

Pocock, who met with the Nigeria’s Foreign Minister, Olugbenga Ashiru, on Tuesday, said the visa bond projects was not what was reported in most of the Nigerian media.

He added that the British government “has announced that it intends to undertake a very small scale trial of the use of financial bonds, as a way of tackling abuse in the immigration system – which occurs when some people overstay their visa terms.”

He said “the details of a pilot scheme are still being worked out,” adding that no final decision had been made.

According to Pocock, “if the pilot scheme were to go ahead in Nigeria, it would affect only a very small number of the highest risk visitors.

“The vast majority would not be required to pay a bond. Those paying bonds would receive the bond back if they abided by the terms of their visa.”

He maintained that the travel between two countries was a key part of strong cultural and business relationship, noting that “financial bonds would be focused on only a tiny minority of potential abusers. It would not be a £3,000 visa charge as some media reporting has alleged.”

The commissioner added that with over 180,000 Nigerians applying to visit the UK each year, about 70 per cent or around 125,000 of the figure were successful.

He assured that “as soon as more details of the policy is decided, we
will inform the Nigerian government and public fully and officially, in the spirit of our long standing friendship.”

Chilean Woman Who Cries Tears Of Blood

DOCTORS in Chile are baffled by a woman who has started crying tears of BLOOD.

Yaritza Oliva was terrified when the strange condition appeared earlier this month.

Ever since, with no warning, the 20-year-old bleeds from her eyes several times a day.

Yaritza visited her doctor but when no evidence of an infection could be found she was sent home with eye drops to help her cope with the pain, which she says is "indescribable".

Her parents are now asking friends and neighbours in Purranque, Chile, to help them raise the money to send their daughter to an eye expert.

Her carpenter dad Jose appealed on a local news show: "Please put your hands over your hearts, see our situation and help my daughter."

It's possible Yaritza has a very rare condition called haemolacria, which causes sufferers to produce tears containing blood.

There are only THREE documented cases of the condition, which can be symptomatic of a more serious illness or a tumour - or caused by a high level of hormones in fertile women.

‘Boko Haram leader is from Niger Republic’

Leader of the Boko Haram sect Imam Abubakar Shekau hails from Niger Republic, according to the report of a Senate joint committee that investigated the deadly violence in Baga town of Borno State in April.
Shekau is widely believed to be from Shekau village of Yobe State, but the Senate committee in its report submitted yesterday said Borno State Governor Kashim Shettima told visiting senators that the man was actually from the neighbouring Republic of Niger.
The report, a copy obtained by Daily Trust, said senators were told that “although the Boko Haram sect members have some Chadians and Cameroonians within their midst about 80 per cent of them are of Kanuri tribe, adding that the leader of the sect Abubakar Shekau is a Kanuri from Niger Republic.”
Shekau became leader of the group in 2009 following the death in police custody of erstwhile leader Mohammed Yusuf.
He is believed to have spearheaded the regrouping of the sect, which quickly graduated from conducting targeted drive-by shootings in Maiduguri to launching massive bomb assaults in Abuja, Kano, Kaduna and other places in the North.
Although he has not been seen in public since July 2009, Shekau has released occasional internet videos in which he makes claims of responsibility of attacks and taunts the Federal Government.

My Baby Has Turned Me Into A Celebrity – OAU Undergraduate Who Gave Birth In The Toilet

Rotimi with her baby
When the news first broke, a lot of people vilified her. It was reported that she wanted to get rid of what many would describe as a bundle of joy. People thus wondered why a 22-year-old undergraduate would try to flush away her baby in one of the toilets in Moremi Hall, her hall of residence at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State.
Without clarifying the circumstances that led to the delivery in the toilet, they went on to social media networks,  putting on trial Miss Oyinlola Rotimi, the 400-Level student of Agricultural Extension and Rural Sociology at OAU, who delivered a baby boy on Wednesday.
While the news went round the campus, the traumatised young mother was hurriedly taken to the institution’s Health Centre by two cleaners, Mrs. Shipebi Grace and Mrs. Cecilia Ologbenla. The social media was further flooded with stories that Oyinlola wanted to kill her baby. The OAU management investigated the matter and found out it was not true. Rotimi,  who was discharged from the hospital on Friday,  has also narrated her own side of the story.
In spite of the trauma she had passed through since last Wednesday, the student, a native of Ijabe, a border town between Osun and Kwara states, says she is happy that the embarrassment she received from the controversy that surrounded the birth of her baby has turned into a blessing for her.
She says the baby’s birth has made her more popular and important in the society.
Good to see mother and child doing so well. Thank God for His infinite mercies! Continue to read more of this lengthy but interesting write-up ...

He has signed a three-year deal in Spain to replace Jose Mourinho, who left to become Chelsea boss.
Blanc, 47, has agreed a two-year contract at the Parc des Princes. PSG appeared to be trying to secure a replacement for Ancelotti before letting him go and said they were "delighted" at Blanc's appointment, despite French media claiming he was not the first choice. He will take charge of the squad on 1 July for the start of pre-season training.
Congrats to both Managers and clubs! Can Ancelotti carry on from where Mourinho stopped in Spain?

3yrs old boy dies after parents forget and leave him for three hours locked in sweltering car

Tragedy: this is the home where authorities say a baby died after his parents accidentally left him in a hot car for three hours
A 3-year-old boy is dead after his parents mistakenly left him in a hot car in Florida over the weekend. dding to the tragedy, the parents were attending a funeral for another family member when the little boy was accidentally left in the car.

According to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office, Kyrese Anderson was pronounced dead after spending about three hours in the back of a hot car as his parents attended the funeral - and his two siblings were just feet away in the care of a babysitter.

The confusion, the sheriff's office says, started when the baby's parents, Robert Anderson, 29, and Amanda Jo Anderson, 30, took two cars to drop their children off with a babysitter about 1 p.m.

The two older children - ages 4 and 5 - were in one of the vehicles, as Kyrese was in the other.

The Andersons dropped the two older kids off with the babysitter but forgot about Kyrese. They then took one car to the funeral and left the other - the one containing the boy - in front of the babysitter's house, as the hot, mid-day sun beat down upon it.

'They get back from the funeral several hours later,' Dave Bristow with the Manatee County Sheriff's Office told, 'and they ask where the 3-year-old was, and the babysitter said, "I thought he was with you?'"

The couple rushed to the car and found the baby unresponsive inside at about 4 p.m. and called 9-1-1.
Kyrese was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Heat related vehicle deaths amongst children are relatively rare and tends to happen, as one would imagine, more frequently in places with warmer climates, like the southwest and Florida.

According to the website, 33 children were killed in the U.S. when they were left in hot cars in 2011. That's down from 49 in 2010.

72 yrs old man faces death penalty after 'shooting dead two teens and a mother for refusing to get off his property and then burning their bodies in a car'

Volunteer: Friends and neighbors said they were shocked to hear Don Clark was charged in a triple murder. He was an active volunteer in the community
A 72-year-old California man was charged for allegedly shooting two teens and a mother before setting their bodies on fire after they wouldn't get off his property earlier this month.
Burnt: Prosecutors said Don Clark burned three people in this once-green 2000 Acura TL after shooting them on his property
Don Clark, of Chico, was charged with three felony counts of murder and one count of arson in court Friday after firefighters found three dead Sacramento residents smouldering in a burnt car several miles from his home on June 13, according to the San Jose Mercury News.

Prosecutors said Clark shot Roland Lowe, 15, his mother Colleen Lowe, 46, and Richard Jones Jr., 17, with a 12-gauge pump shotgun when he saw them walking to his home the evening of June 12.

'He saw them come into his place. He wanted them off and that's when the shooting occurred,'Butte County District Attorney Mike Ramsey said outside court after Clark's arraignment Friday.
Ramsey said Clark asked the victims to get off his property before opening fire, according to

Prosecutors said Clark then put the bodies in the vehicle the group arrived in, driving over 20 miles away to dump the car on Skyway Road near the community of DeSabla. Investigators believe Clark biked back to his home.

Firefighters found the bodies shortly after midnight the next day after they extinguished the fire.
Clark's neighbors told several news outlets they were shocked by the charges. Clark was known as a community volunteer--even recycling items on his own property.

John Clark, no relation, said the accused murderer was quiet. He said he's known Clark for nine years.

'He was a good friend of mine at one point,' John Clark told

'He didn't curse, he didn't smoke, he didn't drink and he did not steal,' he added. 'And he did not tolerate bad behavior from other people.'

John Clark also told CBS13 that Clark was an 'upstanding man', though he had an angry streak.
Speculating Clark's motive for the alleged triple-murder to CBS13, John Clark said Clark was 'taking the law into his own hands. He probably felt like an enforcer.'

Clark volunteered for community projects, including parking cars at a recent pancake breakfast to raise money for a local bridge. He also volunteered to clean up Butte Creek Canyon.

When the group arrived at Clark's home, they parked the car on the 14000 block of Centerville Road and walked down a dirt path to Clark's property, where prosecutors said they were shot.

One of the victims was shot in the side and the others were shot in the front, according to the Chico Enterprise-Record. Clark allegedly used gasoline to set the car on fire.
Firefighters found two bodies in the trunk of the Acura and one in back seat.

'This is just a tragic situation where tempers flared and death occurred,' Ramsey said, noting the murders didn't appear to be drug related.

Police are still waiting for DNA identification of the bodies found in the burnt Acura, but court papers named the victims reportedly based on circumstantial evidence.

In addition to other resources used to connect the bodies to Clark, Jones' mother called the Sheriff's Office to report her son was missing in the area.

A week after the bodies were found, police served a search warrant on Clark's property at 5 a.m. on Wednesday. Investigators eventually found a shotgun in Clark's storage unit in Chico.

Clark was questioned by police for a day and Sheriff's Lt Al Smith told the Enterprise-Record he was cooperative. He was eventually read his right to remain silent and police arrested him after several more interviews.

The District Attorney's Office hasn't decided if they will consider the death sentence for Clark. If convicted, Clark also faces life in prison without parole.

I was told that it doesn’t have anything to do with that, because as much as i drink and smoke then, it was casual drinking. maybe, they offer you a bottle of drink and all that, not that i have to drink 15 bottles or drink all through the day.

How much do you need for a transplant?
For transplant itself, it varies, because the procedure is $25000. The whole process of the treatment from pre-process,transplanting and post-transplanting will cost about $100,000. I(n two years i have spent up to five million which i have been trying to maintain myself. that is why it has been kept secret.

When are you going for the transplant?
God willing, i have like 8 to 10 weeks more to get it done. It’s strange, i still walk around a little. I can’t eat much again, N20 rice is even enough. I trust God and Nigerians for their financial assistance.

Boko-Haram Members Dressed As Women Arrested In Borno

This is following reports that Boko Haram sect members now resort to wearing women’s clothing to go out and perpetrate evil or try to escape arrest by soldiers and vigilante youths in the area.

Reporters gathered that, four Boko Haram members were arrested on Saturday in Gwange ward wearing women’s clothing and trying to escape arrest.

This is as a result of pressure mounted on them in the area by the vigilante youths who have been seriously hunting for the sect members particularly in Gwange area of the metropolis.

According to residents, who pleaded anonymity the sect members also wear women’s clothings to hide their weapons.

“They have been doing that for a long time according to one of them who was arrested last month in Gwange and since that time so many of them have been arrested and handed to security,” he said.

Speaking on whether the soldiers are killing the arrested Boko Haram members, he said, “They (vigilante youths) have been arresting them, but killing them, we do not know because the soldiers always carry them to the JTF headquarters.”

According to him, even those that were arrested with ‘hijab’ last week Saturday, we were told that the youths beat them up and handed them over to the military for further interrogation.

Rapper "Fat Joe" sentenced to prison on tax charges

NEWARK, N.J., June 24 (Reuters) - Hip hop artist Joseph "Fat Joe" Cartagena was sentenced on Monday to four months in federal prison and fined $15,000 for failure to file tax returns on more than $3.3 million in income.
The 42-year-old rapper faced the possibility of up to two years in prison after pleading guilty in December to two counts of failing to file with the Internal Revenue Service.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Cathy Waldor gave the Bronx-born rapper credit for paying $718,000 in back taxes prior to his sentencing and for his charitable work.
The court received more than 60 letters on his behalf, including one from Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz, who cited Cartagena's efforts to donate computers to local schools.
Cartagena apologized to his family and friends, saying he let them down. He said his 6-year-old daughter was being taunted in school by classmates who said her father was going to jail.
"There was a lot going on in the years that I didn't file my taxes, but it was my responsibility," he said. His hits include the 2004 song "Lean Back."
His attorneys had asked for probation in light of the three-month prison sentence handed down to hip hop artist Lauryn Hill in May on similar tax charges.
Cartagena was originally charged with failure to file returns from 2007 to 2010 but under a plea agreement the charges were reduced to not filing returns for two years.
His income came from three companies, including Somerville, N.J.-based Terror Squad Production Inc and Miramar Music Touring, which he owned. (Editing by Ellen Wulfhorst and by Bob Burgdorfer)
