Sister Of Sandy-hook Victim Gun-control Plea To Obama

The tragic shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., have increased the calls for gun control around the nation and in Congress, but perhaps none have been as poignant as that from 10-year-old Natalie Barden, sister of victim Daniel Barden.

Natalie's letter, written to President Barack Obama and read by Anderson Cooper on air, voiced her clear and thoughtful belief that guns did not belong in the hands of most civilians:

"My name is Natalie Barden and I wanted to tell the president that only police officers and the military should get guns. If people want to do it as a sport than they could go to a shooting range and the guns would not be able to leave there."

Woman To Marry Twin Sister's Killer

A 22-year-old Argentine woman has agreed to marry the man convicted of killing her twin sister two years ago.

Edith Casas insists Victor Cingolani did not murder her sister, a model with whom he also had a relationship.

Cingolani was convicted of Johana Casas' murder and is serving 13 years in prison in the town of Pico Truncado.

The couple have said they plan to wed on Friday at the prison in the southern province of Santa Cruz, to avoid media attention.

Cingolani is reported as telling Argentine media outlets that his relationship with Johana was "casual", but that he was "in love" with Edith.

"We have lots of things in common and she isn't jealous," Argentine newspaper Clarin quoted him as saying.

"We always talk about Johana, about how she was," he said.

Edith maintains that Cingolani was unjustly convicted, saying he is "a guy who would not hurt a fly".

Their mother, Marcelina del Carmen Orellana, said it was clear to her that Edith was "psychologically ill".

Mario Balotelli's Daughter Pia (Pictures)

This is the first picture of Pia Balotelli, the new baby daughter of firebrand Manchester City striker Mario.

The little girl was born earlier this month to his ex-girlfriend Raffaella Fico, 27, and arrived three weeks early - she had been due on Christmas Day.

Balotelli has yet to see his daughter in the flesh and and is said to have only seen pictures of her via email.

In her first interview since giving birth Raffaella lashed out at the player for failing to act as a proper father.

In an interview with glossy Italian weekly Chi, Raffaella posed for several pictures with Pia, as well as her mother and brother Francesco, after securing a five figure deal with the magazine.

Chi is the same publication that printed pictures of a Coverless Duchess of Cambridge in the summer which were taken while she was on holiday in France with Prince William.

Furious Raffaella stormed: 'Mario for me is irresponsible. It came to a certain point where he was just not interested in anything, not in me or our daughter.

'Up until certain things happened he was supposed to marry me. That was our project, our desire.

'Then all of a sudden everything collapsed and I don't know why.'

Raffaella and Balotelli were an item for almost a year but split up in March after she flew to Manchester to confront him over a series of alleged affairs - the bust up was so furious that police had to be called to his Cheshire home.

Then in June during the European Championships, Raffaella contacted Balotelli to tell him she was pregnant with their child but initially he refused to accept it was his and demanded a DNA test.

Devastated Raffaella then hit back and said she had no fear of taking the test and her family rallied round her as it emerged she had also been contacted and urged to have an abortion - something the deeply religious underwear model ruled out completely.

Two months ago things appeared to be back on track when Balotelli issued a statement saying he was dropping the DNA requirement and that he would be 'trying again' with Raffaella and the two were pictured kissing on the balcony of home in Naples.

But despite his promise it quickly became clear he had no intention of doing the honourable thing as Raffaella confirmed that after he left her in Naples he failed to contact her in the following weeks.

Raffaella, who appeared on Italy's version of I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here, described he moment she went into labour and rushed to the clinic.

'I sent Mario a text message at 3pm when the first contractions started and then again at 6.30pm when I went into the delivery room. I sent him another as soon as I came out and Pia had been born.

'But he only bothered to get in touch at half past midnight when my phone rang.

'I said to him "Mario, I've given birth" and he just said "Ah OK, I'm not bothered" and he then put the phone down. I've not heard from him since.'

'Mario's not even bothered about seeing his daughter - even if he doesn't want me to take a DNA test anymore I will do. I will make the results public so everyone knows Pia is Mario Balotelli's daughter.'

When asked if Balotelli had offered financial help Raffaella said: 'I have not had any economic help from Mr Balotelli.

'He is worth more than da Vinci's Mona Lisa but for his own daughter he hasn't flashed a penny. I have not even had a call asking if I needed anything. I don't need him or his money.'

However when asked what she would do if Balotelli did get in touch, Raffaela said: 'The door for his daughter is always open. The door of my heart is closed forever.

'I think when he came back to Naples a couple of months ago to see me that was just a PR exercise.

'Things then were not going well for him on and off the field.

'He doesn't have any paternal instincts. He is not even curious about his own daughter.'

Raffaella, whose previous boyfriends have included Cristiano Ronaldo, named her daughter after a mystical monk called Padre Pio who was famous for having bleeding wounds in his hands and feet exactly where Christ had them.

During the summer she made a pilgrimage to his shrine near Foggia where she was photographed in prayer in front of his statue with her mother and brother.

Gunmen Kidnap French Man In Katsina

A group of 30 gunmen have used dynamite to force their way into a well-guarded compound in northern Nigeria and seize a French engineer, police say.

Two Nigerian guards were killed in the attack, said Katsina state police commissioner Abdullahi Magaji.

As the unknown group fled, they attacked a police station, he said.

Katsina has been relatively unscathed by months of violence in northern Nigeria carried out by Boko Haram Islamist militants.

Mr Magaji told the AFP news agency he did not think the militant group, which is based in the Borno state capital, Maiduguri, was behind the kidnapping.

The kidnapped man worked for a French company on a wind power project in the town of Rimi, about 25km (15 miles) from Katsina city , reports the AFP news agency.

Two security guards were shot dead in the attack, while a police officer was wounded, the police commissioner said.

EFCC Declares Ex-Gov Audu Wanted

caption: Former Governor of Kogi State Abubakar Audu
By Wilson Uwujaren- Ag. Head, Media & Publicity, EFCC
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has declared former governor of Kogi State, Abubakar Audu wanted for offences bordering on conspiracy, stealing and misappropriation of public fund.

The action followed the failure of the suspect to respond to invitation by the anti- graft agency.

Attempt by the EFCC to arrest Audu at his 32, Sulaiman Barau Street, Asokoro, Abuja residence on December 11, 2012 failed as he allegedly evaded arrest.
The former governor is alleged to have fraudulently enriched himself to the tune of over N4 billion while he held sway as governor of Kogi State between 1999 and 2003.

The move to arrest the ex- governor followed a Supreme Court ruling of November 23, 2012, which dismissed the ex-governor's appeal to continue to protract his corruption trial by EFCC.

The Commission implores any one having useful information about the whereabouts of the suspect to notify its offices in Abuja, Port Harcourt, Lagos, Kano and Enugu or report at the nearest police station.

Fire At Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA)

The picture above shows the smoke oozing out from Nigeria's Murtala Muhammed International Airport!

A small electrical fire was on Thursday morning reported at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos.

An eyewitness said the fire emanated from some cables, which apparently melted under heat, as some welders were working at the extension of ‘D’ Wing of the international airport.

Airport officials swiftly cut off power supply to the arrival and departure terminals, in order to forestall any untoward development and isolated the scene of the spark.

Fire fighters were also deployed in the affected area and were able to put the situation under control.

Securitymen also erected a metal barricade around the site.

Power supply was restored to the airport terminal within a few minutes.

Flight operations were, however, not affected while the incident lasted.

South Korea Gets First Female President

Park Geun-hye, 60, presidential candidate of the ruling party, edged out Moon Jae-in, 59, nominee of the opposition party, by a narrow margin — becoming South Korea’s first female President on Wednesday.

“Park Geun-hye has made history. The keen contest that saw an unprecedented
voter turnout of 75.8% can do any democracy proud,” Vishnu Prakash, Indian ambassador to South Korea, told HT just after exit polls when a majority of the votes had been counted. Park had a little over 3% lead over Moon in the country’s most captivating presidential elections. The formal results will be announced on Thursday.

Park is the daughter of the late dictator Park Chung-hee who has been hailed as a great moderniser as well as a brutal dictator ruling Korea between 1961 and 1979. Moon was a student activist and human rights lawyer, who was once imprisoned for opposing the dictator’s authoritarian rule.(see

Nae Young Lee, director of Asiatic Research Institute, describes her as “experienced and stable but rigid and inflexible”. “The young lot doesn’t like her because they feel she represents the past. The older generation likes her because she reminds them of her father. For many, he was a hero for lifting South Korea out of poverty.”

“Park is a strong woman, someone who will stand like a rock during a crisis,” says HK Kho, professor at Pusan University of Foreign Studies. Park entered politics in 1998 by winning the national assembly seat in her father’s hometown. “She has a conservative, market-oriented political stance. But she has not got out of her father’s shadow. Her father is a political asset for her, but at the same time she has been criticised for being the daughter of a dictator,” adds Kho.

Park has one younger sister and a brother. She has never been married and her private life is almost unknown

Not surprisingly, the children are following in Mum and Dad’s (pretty huge) footsteps. Lucas is 4ft 5in at the age of six — average for a ten-year-old. Eva, four, is 3ft 7in, typical of a girl a year older. And at six weeks old, Baby Jonah is just two inches shy of 2ft long.
